Catastrum. The quarterly cadastral history magazine was founded by the National Archives of Hungary in 2013, and the first series of publication was issued in 2014. Herman Ottó Institute Nonprofit Ltd., the publisher of the professional periodicals by the Ministry of Land Cultivation and then its legal successor; the Ministry of Agriculture, has been publishing the journal since 2015.

Catastrum aims to reveal and publish the cadastral surveys (18-20th century) that provided data on the size, nature, value, and owner of the land, serving as the permanent basis for levying the land tax, as well as the sources of literature and archives of state surveys developed from the cadastral survey. The results of research on this topic are published in the form of studies, publications, reviews, reports. The studies and publications are issued with short resumes in English. In the case of a foreign author or internationally significant topic, we also undertake the publication of articles in English or German.

Content planned within the scope of the objectives: description of the collections (creation, processing, accessories, research facilities); exploration and description of cadastral maps and documents (description of document types); professional history (organizational history, prosopography, architectural and material memories); presentation of books, databases, online collections; answering for tenders, periodic and summary reports of projects, research projects, international outlook.

Our authors: archivists, representatives of collections (in libraries, and museums), historians, cartographers, surveyors, ethnographers, archaeologists, family historians, landscape managers, garden construction engineers, & so on.

Target audience: land management, public (basic) survey participants; economists, politicians, social historians, history teachers, ethnographers, public collectors (archives, libraries, museums), surveyors, those interested in maps and professional histories (taxation, surveying, mapping), and family history researchers.
